This small garden with cascading levels was designed to weave in isolated functions and components on the north side of the single family house. The basement level opens directly to the wood deck, while the gravel terrace connects to the kitchen above via the existing patio and stairs. The newly created levels not only improve access to the home, but also provide areas for flexible outdoor seating. The seating is oriented to face the nearby park rather than the neighbors, and screening plants allow the owners enough privacy and intimacy to relax in their backyard with friends and nature.
